kitchen reveal...sort of

Sometimes I think I may be part bear-I can hibernate with the best of them. (My recent months of blogging-or lack thereof-should provide you with evidence of that fact.) But then I think about several other factors-size, teeth, claws, the rather ferocious amount of hair found on bears...and it's pretty clear that I'm not part bear at all.

As for what I've been up to during my recent hibernation period, allow me to lure your back to my little part of the web with a little home update.

If you'll recall, Boyfriend and I had recently taken on a huge project (found here, here, and here). This house. Blah. Blah, blah, blah. My hat's off to all you DIY pros for making it look so easy. It's soooo not. But I didn't start this post to complain to you about the seemingly endless to-do list...I started this post to share some of our progress, however slow it may be. Allow me to take you back...

Please keep in mind that I did say progress...meaning this project hasn't wrapped. However, it has been improved upon.

Wallpaper is gone, new texture up, fresh white paint on the walls, new color on the cabinets (goodbye ugly polyurethaned wood!), and a general deep cleaning. We still have cabinet doors to install, the ceiling to paint, and the floor to conquer. If I make it through all of that without ripping my hair out or running around like Jason Russell, feel free to congratulate me. With oodels wine. Or gift cards. Love those.

a long time comin'

So what if I've been meaning to do this post for a year? I'm doing it now, aren't I?!

I've been waiting for a bag of money to fall from the sky onto my doorstep. Front or back, I'm not picky. But, THAT hasn't happened. I wanted all of the rooms to be perfect, so the magnificence of my work would practically glow on the computer screen (as seen here and here). Then I remembered I'm not Sherry or Kara. So I'm finally giving in. To myself. Me 0 - Myself 1. Fine. Whatever.

Presenting, mi casa. [that's my house in Spanish, for those of you living on another planet.] That sounded mean didn't it? That's myself talking, not me. She's a bit cocky today–getting her way and all. Feel free to ignore her attitude problem and scroll down to the good(ish) stuff.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

  

So, that's it. Home sweet home. Minus the bedrooms because the camera died. You're not missing much, but I will post those shortly. I, myself, hope to have them up by the weekend. But according to me, anytime within the next year will do.

Tour Time!

Hi all! Today we're going on a tour of my brother's new casita. He recently moved in here with his lovely lady and her two kiddos (two of the cutest girls ever! btw...) Don't mind the lack of furniture or paint swatches on the wall–I ran around snapping photos before anyone could shout, "Hey wait! We're not even moved in yet!" For the record, I love this house! The floor plan is perfect...the rooms are nice and large...plenty of storage...and a ton, ton, ton of potential! I'm so excited to see what they'll do with her.

But enough gabbing...take a look for yourself.

So, that's it for now. Aren't you tickled pink with excitement?! There's a small possibility I went overboard with enthusiasm and created mood boards for their house before they even signed the lease. A small possibility. I'll see if I can't find those for your viewing pleasure, and updates will follow as rooms begin to take shape.

thinking on a bedroom

In the chaos of putting together our house–running around to flea markets & thrift stores, cleaning, reorganizing, moving furniture–our bedroom has been basically ignored. I did finally get in there two days ago and create the beginnings of decor, but alas, the sanctuary I seek remains elusive. I hold on to the hope of designing a space that will invite deep, restful sleep as well as boost romance. (What girl couldn't use a little romance?) Ok, so this is similar to the bed frame we have.

and this is the new quilt I ordered. Ryon loves quilts, and I found this one we both liked.
Our walls are white, which I can do nothing about as we are in a rental. BUT!, I can use color, color, color everywhere else. Hopefully I can keep from going overboard!

After hours of searching for bedroom inspiration, I have compiled several photos to help me on my decorating path. I LOVE the drapes around the headboard in this one. Very romantic.


I have wanted a couple of these for a while. And NOW I have the perfect vanity to put them on. Old Home Supply carries these in the colored glass variety. Lovely!


We don't technically have a bookshelf in our bedroom, BUT if I were to put on in there, this is what I would want it to look like

new casita

I am happy to write that exactly one month ago, Ryon and I signed the lease to our first house. The thrill of this event was almost indescribable. Happy, excited, scared, exuberant, anxious, stoked. I really can't begin to encompass everything I was, and still am feeling. But, suffice it to say that all emotions considered, I know I'm exactly where I need/want to be. I am looking forward to getting settled, which we are not yet, and creating a space where Ryon and I are equally comfortable. Lucy Jo and King Leo have both adjusted to the move...though Leo is still giving us some problems. Lucy loves her big yard, and has discovered several treasures, including: a plastic bat, a watergun, an aloe plant (which she may have eaten??), and some sort of large bone. Honestly, it resembles a human leg bone. Eeeek!

We have hosted a couple Sundays of feasting and drinking and look forward to more! We're planning on throwing a more formal Midsummer party in June to celebrate the new house, Ryon leaving Logan's (hopefully within the next few weeks!), and a send-off for John and Vinnie, who are taking a great big trip for most of the summer.

I'm not feeling especially creative or inspired at the moment, but I wanted to share the news of our house because, well, it's pretty darn exciting!
